The world?s fastest urban car?
from Mind Threads Web Design

I’m browsing around looking for CAD tips and tricks and I stumble across an article about Commuter Cars Corporation . The article mentions how a guy with no CAD experience has built not only his own car (using Solidworks ), but the worlds fastest urban car and started his own company to build them? Click, click and I’m there.. This thing is a Kleenex box with golf cart wheels?? OK.. then I get to reading. I’m slowly recognizing a LOT of names.. Cadillac steering column, Momo steering wheel, Carrera shocks, Bert Transmission, Mazda Miata, Toyo Tires, Konig Wheels, Hawk break pads, Wilwood master cylinder, Vintage Air A/C, Sparco seats, and more.. you get the idea.. These are parts I’d like to have in MY car. All are top notch names. Now, it’s not much to look at but geez.. after the entire read.. it’s a great engineering achievement none the less. 0-60 in 4 seconds! 1/4 mile at around 12 seconds and 120 MPH. Top speed around 135. Seats 2 ...

Here comes the new Enterprise PDM!

After getting dropped in to the Solidworks world in late 2007, we’ve been on the edge as far as PDM goes. Not in that we are pushing it’s limits, just that we are one of the few companies that’s using this newer product from Solidworks. A lot of other companies have serious time and investments in using the built-in app that comes with Solidworks or are using other higher end applications. Personally, I like EPDM a lot and think it’s got a world of potential. It does have some faults (lack of built in PDF generation like it’s little brother is my obvious peeve this month) but overall we did evaluate other products and I still think our decision would be the same even today. (Even knowing all the quirks I know about it) Anyhow since the stories out about the 2010 version I wanted to post the ‘What’s new’ sheet. Hopefully in the coming months I’ll get to test some of these new features and I’ll let you know how it goes. So ...

Two Lane Blacktop 55 Chevy Restored!
from Mind Threads Web Design

Imagine my surprise when I stumbled across this site : http://twolaneblacktop.yuku.com/ It’s got a small wealth of information on the movie Two-Lane Blacktop. This ’70s movie featured Warren Oats, James Taylor, and Dennis Wilson (beach boys). The basic premise of the movie is that two drifters in a race ready ‘55 take on the factory muscle of Warren Oats in his new 1970 Orbit Orange GTO Judge across the country for pink slips. Anyhow, for several years I had heard that the ‘55 had been recycled and then destroyed in the movie American Graffiti. (The black ‘55 rolled over at the end by ‘Cowboy’) This site clears up some things I’d heard and I thank the new owner for restoring the ‘55 to it’s full movie glory. While on the site I also stumbled across a link to some Roanoke VA drag racing photos from the early 60’s. http://www.vaautoracing.org/Gallery2.html I LOVE these photos, I just wish I was more like my friend ...

As promised, here’s some more photos from the reunion. Since I got tired of waiting on people to send them to me I took a few ‘liberties’ and acquired them on my own. Not that I’m complaining, I’m just impatient and wanted to gather some of them up before they disappear forever. If you recognize a photo as yours (not that you’re in it, but took it) and would like credit then drop me a note and I’ll fix it. There’s so many more I’m breaking them up in a couple of postings.. Numbers from the reunion
from Mind Threads Web Design

When I closed up the reunion Saturday night I happened to notice that the sign-in sheet at the door was still laying there. I grabbed it and have since took it home and ran the quick numbers on it. I also asked Jacque Britt about the numbers I was seeing on it and she confirmed that it probably wasn’t accurate or on the low side. Anyhow, according to the sign-in list, we had 108 people in attendance on Saturday night. The week prior we had determined that we needed around 75 to break even so the 100 plus number is just great! I know at the 20 yr we estimated we had around 150 so for a holiday weekend I think we did very well and would like to thank everyone for showing up. The committee has also been in talks already about a post reunion meeting so maybe after that I can repost and let you know if we have a more accurate number. Thanks again everyone, and feel free to keep up with most of us on Facebook ! Gene Share on Facebook
